The Arts at A.D.H.S.

The arts play an important role at Athens District High School, enriching student life through visual arts, drama, and music while reflecting the creative spirit of the village of Athens. As a community known for its murals, both historic and contemporary, this artistic tradition is proudly echoed throughout the school, where artwork fills the halls and classrooms. Visual Arts at Athens

Athens District High School has a thriving Visual Arts program. This includes drawings, paintings, mixed media work, sculpture, photography, and much more. Below shows a sampling of our student work.

A.D.H.S. Historical Mural

A newspaper article titled, “Historical Murals Put Town on the Map”. This article revolves around the subject of the graduating A.D.H.S. students from 1921 painted on a mural over the gym of the school. The mural was painted by Dan Sawatzky, this newspaper page is in good condition and is in a laminated cover within a folder.

Having student-created murals throughout Athens District High School reflects and honours the rich mural tradition found in the surrounding Village of Athens. Murals have long been a meaningful way for the community to celebrate local history, culture, and shared identity, turning public spaces into visual storytelling landmarks.
